Here’s the thing: narrow chains and 10 speed drivetrains are sick, but they’re also fragile. And so, there you are, 2 hours from home on a Saturday morning. A storm is brewing in the distance, the mercury is dropping, and you just busted your 1090 climbing the last ridge. It’s ok cuz you have a chain tool and SRAM has a Powerlink, right?
So you stop by the side of the road, and before you know it, you’re cursing like a sailor, with a bent Powerlink, sore thumbs, and a chain with a real stupid hop in it.
The fact is that all the major missing link systems on the market kind of suck. They’re “one time use” links that are pretty tough to remove and reinstall without proper tools… tools that you don’t exactly carry on the road. Not only that, but if you’re as OCD as I am about drivetrain maintenance, and remove your chain as often as you shower, using anything other than a ZEF CONNEX LINK by WIPPERMANN, you’re going to run through hella Powerlinks and Missing Links.
The Connex link is a total game changer if you’ve only used the dumb ones. It goes on and comes off easily, with minimal effort, and is reusable ad infinitum. So you should get one. Or three. And if you’re a really nice person, you’ll keep a spare in your toolkit and give it to a buddy when he inevitably busts his 1090 and bends his Powerlink on the side of the road.
These make super rad gifts by the way. Also, Wippermann does make them in silver, but these are the GOLD ones. I mean, this is Zefbikes after all. Compatible with Wippermann, KMC, SRAM, KCNC, Campagnolo, and Shimano 10 speed chainz.
